The Situation

The recent reports of missing children is a symptom of our changing society. The issue of rape is deemed to be less extreme but the incidences are increasing in geometric progression. It is estimated that 90% of the cases are not reported. This film looks at the issue of rape and is the impetus to create a discussion on the value of women as they see themselves and how our community sees women in our modern society.

The new millennium has catapulted our country into a situation of a progressed nation. The effect of inflation has created numerous problems in many lives. The industrious people will seek solutions through their hard work. Unfortunately their willingness for industry makes them vulnerable to exploitation for their labour and sexuality.


Synopsis

The protagonist, LYA and her friend, SHA are typical of that sector of our society who see education as a method of social mobility, Placed in a situation where the interrupted income of her parents is forcing her to seek employment for self support, her main aim is to continue her university studies. The two girls met two young men, Don and Abu Bakar, with a promise of work and end up being victims of their sexual conquests. Being excited over the prospect of gainful employment, SHA consumes her drink with great enthusiasm. As a result, the effect of GHB, the date rape drug, causes her nausea. DON exploited the situation and volunteered to send her home and seized the opportunity to achieve a conquest. LYA was more concerned with her parents being unemployed did not consume her drink with speed and did not finish it. The GBH took effect on her went she got to the car park with Abu Bakar. It was there that he saw his opportunity to launch his attack and proceeded in the back seat of the car. Hampered by the drug, LYA had difficulty fighting back. Suddenly, Abu Bakar was pulled out of the car. LYA thought that she had been rescued. Unfortunately, they were attacked by the three robbers who bludgeoned Abu Bakar's head and kidnapped LYA to their car. They drove off with other intentions and put LYA in a situation than she was in. The three robbers taunted her and she resisted and she finally managed to throw her hand bag out of the car to attract attention. The hand bag hit an oncoming car with four ladies in it. The ladies realized that someone was in trouble, turned the car around and chased the robbers. They forced the robbers' car to stop and got out their car to investigate. The robbers encountered them with parang and weapons. The ladies overcome the three men with the help of pepper sprays and their expertise in self defence. They rescued LYA and took her to the hospital.

On waking up the next morning, LYA suspected her friend, SHA had betrayed her to Abu Bakar and put her on a course to hell. On returning home, she encountered SHA without realizing that SHA had been raped and was suffering from emotional trauma. It was her realization that they were both placed in a situation caused by the vanity of the men. She decided to find the source of GHB. It was this drug that provided the facility for their exploitation. In her adventure, other repercussions occurred to show the vulnerability of people in weak positions and our open to exploitation. This eventually led to fatality.
